A Story of Practice Spaces and House Shows.
Jay and Sean formed a Flipper cover band early 2002 in Fairfax VA. Their friend Pat from Moesha Jenkins joined the noise orgy a couple practices in to make it a “trios”. They named the band after a Hindu temple they saw on the road to a funeral. They began "practicing" in a parents basement, Thunderbird was drank and parents were annoyed. They put out a live EP with after a year called “Live at the Kiddie Porn Dungeon”. After that they relocated to Dale City where they annoyed the Satan House. Soon after they released a self titled record. The band moved to Manassas to a plaster molding shop for practice and after annoying car dealers nextdoor they made another album. Recorded live at the shop with 2 mics, Quit Sucking my Soul saw the band sounding like a sonic stew of rock, roll and plaster. The next CD, High Rocktane, recorded by Jeff Kane was a sonic upgrade via his rad studio. Soon after Troy joined to make it a more manly foursome. See the thing about Durga is the 3 original dudes went to high school together and knew Troy through a girl they schooled with, it was a local thang for the hell of it.
The band moved to Troy’s place, the Abbei house, and there they cooked up some new jams and perfected old hits. Soon they recorded with Tim of Admiral Browning. ‘All The Time’ was Durga’s last and bestest record. Before they went to band heaven Durga put out a 2 lives records, one a split with Moesha Jenkins and a full set from 06 with Troy titled ‘Live from the Rock Church’. Durga contributed 4 unreleased tracks to the Rockjuice Records sampler ‘Lost Jank in the Juice Trank’ and put out a compilation called ‘The Golden Age of’ collecting the best recordings of their earlier “non studio” jams. The first “last show” at the Satan House in Sept 06 was broken up by the police and they continued the set in October at Strangeland Records in Annandale and played some more shows before calling it off in Sept 07 with a final show at the Abbei house. Members are now pursing solo projects and playing in various bands including the Bible, the Pat Paul Band, Empire By Design and Ambiton Burning.
